ROUND 8 OF SCAVENGING BEGINS!

Each month I will scour the interwebz looking for the best articles on public speaking.

I'll be looking for topics like these:

  • Overcoming the fear of public speaking
  • Presentation tips
  • Body language and other technical speaking tips
  • And anything in between...

I'm looking for the interesting, the fascinating, the practical, and anything with worthwhile information to help you become a better communicator.

The best of the freaking best!

The purpose is to save you time. A lot of what's out there can get repetitive and end up wasting your time.

Don't worry, though, I'm doing the scavenging so you don't have to. It will ALL be right here for you.

Grab a burrito and start reading.

1. How P!NK's Drummer Gets Over Stage Fright

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't know Pink had a drummer. Now I know, and his name is Mark Schulman

Anyway, I love the subject of overcoming fear. And even more, I love first-hand accounts of performers and how they deal with stage fright. It doesn't matter if it's public speaking, dancing, drumming, singing, stand up comedy, there is something to learn from each and every one of them.

His technique is solid. Check out the article.

Get his book on the same subject while you're at it!

2. Gary Vaynerchuk on Public Speaking

Here's an interview on HuffPost with Gary Vaynerchuk...Okay, sort of like an interview.

Find out how Gary prepares for keynotes. You won't be disappointed. One of his mental prep techniques will make you laugh! Here's the article

3. Why Do Famous People Get Paid $250,000 to Give a Speech?

Not the norm that would make the TOP 5 list, but pretty dang interesting. Why do some speakers command the big bucks? Check it out and get lesson on speaking economics. Here's the article.

4. Why You're Not (Yet) a Great Public Speaker (and 5 Things to Do About It)

Great examples used in this article. The author makes a point about not "winging" it and I agree about 75% of the way. I think giving yourself some wiggle room with your content will make your talk come off more natural, and give you more freedom. Freedom just feels better internally than stringent rules. See all the tips here

5. How To Be A Good Keynote Speaker At A Tech Conference

Clearly written for the techies, but most of the tips apply to ALL public speaking. Great tips all around and especially about what to look for when booking the room you'll be speaking at. Here's the article

That's it for this edition of Tactical Talks Top 5. If you have a worthy article, get in touch for a chance to have it featured in next month's edition. Until next time!
